Covers & text
Cover comps: cameos, spines, creases, materials and textures, plus text and its print effects.
Add a cover to a book
0:05Press the Add cover button, or press C.
Cover comps are for client proofing
0:03A cover comp is a mockup of your cover - it helps a client picture the finished product, the material, spine and title, as part of proofing. It's not meant as a production file: most vendors build the physical cover from their own templates and specifications, so check with yours before including it in production files. The cover does still export at full print resolution like any spread, so if you print covers yourself, or your vendor accepts custom cover files, it's ready to use.
Put a photo on the cover (cameo)
0:12Select the image you want and drop it anywhere on the cover canvas, then zoom and pan it exactly like a photo on a spread.
A cover cameo keeps its own corner rounding
1:31The cameo on a cover comp rounds separately from the rest of the project, so the project corner radius leaves it alone and you set the cameo the way you want it.
Open the cover editor (E)
0:24Press the cover edit button or E when viewing the cover. Everything other than placing the cameo happens in here - resizing and repositioning it, plus the whole cover toolbar.
Set the spine width and style
0:38Adjust the spine width and choose a square, rounded or scored spine.
Crease style and binding depth
0:48Set the crease style to flush, scored, double or groove, then set the crease width and the binding depth.
Choose a cover material
0:58Linen, canvas, leather, bookcloth and more. You can adjust how much of the texture shows through, its scale, and the material color from the picker.
Use a custom texture from your print vendor
1:18Load a texture your vendor supplied. It shows in the color and view it was intended in, and you can tint it black and white or to any color you prefer.
Round the cover corners and set the cameo cutout
1:35Round the outside corners of the cover itself, round the cameo image corners, and turn the cameo cutout effect on or off with its own depth and color.
Add text
1:56Click the Text button and add your text, then reposition and resize it with the snapping guides. Text works on regular spreads as well as covers.
Text effects: debossing, foils and more
2:07The text bar sets font size and color plus effects like debossing, embossing, letterpress and foils.
Style part of a text block on its own
1:02Select a range inside a text block and give just that part its own font, size, color or print finish. Bold, italic and underline apply to a selected range too.
Save a cover and reuse it
2:18Save a cover you're happy with and load it again in any other project.
